Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is a notable absentee as the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced the Indian squad for the Asian Athletics Championships, which will be held from May 27 to 31 in Gumi, South Korea.
Neeraj, who is currently preparing for the Doha Diamond League (May 16) and the Neeraj Chopra Classic (May 24), has opted to skip the continental championships.
The AFI announced the Indian squad for the Asian Athletics Championships following the conclusion of the Federation Cup in Kochi on Friday.
Neeraj began his season by winning the Potchefstroom Invitational with a throw of 84.52 metres last week.
In his absence, promising youngsters Sachin Yadav and Yash Vir Singh will represent India in the men's javelin throw event. Sachin won the Federation Cup gold with a throw of 83.86m.
He has been a consistent performer this year, having earlier won the gold medal at the 38th National Games with a Games record. His throw of 84.39m broke the previous record of 82.23m, held by Rajendra Singh of Haryana.
Yash, meanwhile, emerged as the champion at the Indian Open Athletics 2025, edging out Asian Games silver medallist Kishore Jena to claim the men’s javelin throw title.
