KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Kamindu Mendis took a brilliant catch
- Harshal Patel dismissed Dewald Brevis
- CSK posted a total okf 154
Kamindu Mendis pulled off one of the greatest catches in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday (April 25) to get the wicket of Dewald Brevis.
Making his debut for the Super Kings after being signed by the franchise as an injury replacement for Gujanpeet Singh, Brevis made an instant impact. The ex-Mumbai Indians (MI) star added some intent to the CSK middle order, whose lacklustre approach was widely criticised throughout the season so far.
Brevis made a knock a 42 runs in 25 balls, which included one boundary and four maximums and was only ended by a catch from Mendis that will be remembered for a long time. In the 13th over of the innings, the South African star attempted a six on Harsha Patel's bowlign over the long-off boundary. However, Mendis had other plans as he dived full tilt towards the right-hand side and took a brilliant catch with both hands.

Talking about the match after Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first, CSK posted a total of 154 on the board. Brevis was their top-scorer while Ayush Mhatre gave them a quick start with a 19-ball 30. Shivam Dube (12 of 9), Ravindra Jadeja (21 of 17) and Deepak Hooda (22 of 21) were the only other players to make scores in double digits.
Harshal Patel was the pick of the SRH bowlers with a four-wicket haul while Mohammed Shami and Jaydev Unadkat took two wickets each.
The match is a do-or-die for both teams and a battle to avoid the wooden spoon. As things stand, SRH are 9th in the table while CSK are 10th. Both teams have won two matches in eight games. The team that loses that game will not able to reach 16 points, which is considered a safe tally for playoff qualification.
