Karun Nair continued his heroic redemption and carried his domestic cricket form to IPL by scoring his first half-century in IPL after seven years. Playing his first IPL game in 2025 for the Delhi Capitals (DC) as an Impact Player, Karun scored an explosive 22-ball fifty with eight boundaries and two sixes. In the last over of the powerplay, Karun took on Jasprit Bumrah and smashed 18 runs in that over.
DC got off to a forgettable start and lost Jack Fraser-McGurk's wicket on the very first ball. He got caught at the short cover by Will Jacks off Deepak Chahar. Everyone was expecting KL Rahul to come in at first down as he has performed well in the last two games, but DC dropped a shocker by sending Karun Nair as an impact sub. Karun showed intent right from the start and smashed 89 off 40 balls.
Karun played his first IPL game since 2022. He last played for his home team Rajasthan Royals, where he has scored just 16 runs in two outings. His last fifty-plus score came during the IPL 2018 for Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab). It was the last season when he scored a 100-run mark in this league.
2016 was a golden year for Karun Nair - he made his ODI and Test debut in the same year. In the third Test match of his career, he scored a triple ton and became the second Indian to achieve this feat after Virender Sehwag. In ODI, he has featured in only two games.
After his triple ton, he appeared in three more Test matches and scored 54 runs at 13.50. He was dropped in 2018 and is still looking for a chance. He shone in the 2024-25 domestic season and sent a message to the selectors by scoring 863 runs in 16 innings in the Ranji Trophy. Nair last played for India in 2017.
