Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had an IPL season to forget so far and they are reeling at the last spot with only one win from 6 matches. Their batsmen have struggled to score quick runs while their bowlers have also struggled in the season. CSK had high expectations from R Ashwin and they re-signed him after 10 years for Rs 9.75 crore.
Ashwin has struggled with the ball and has managed 5 wickets in six matches. He has an economy rate of 9.90. Ashwin's struggles in IPL 2025 haven't gone unnoticed and Kris Srikkanth wants him dropped from CSK's playing XI.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former India chief selector lambasted Ashwin and said that he is bowling terribly. "You know what I thought at the start of the season? I thought we had a gun bowling line-up. I thought CSK would make it difficult for visiting teams in Chennai with their three world-class spinners, Matheesha Pathirana, and Khaleel Ahmed. We all believed CSK would rely on their bowling attack to win matches after posting totals around 180 at home," he said.
"That plan has completely fallen apart. Where did it go wrong? Ashwin is bowling terribly. He's bowling very, very poorly. I'm not sure if Ashwin will be in the XI for the next game after bowling like this. If you ask me - drop him,."
Ravindra Jadeja has also been struggling in the season and he has managed 2 wickets. With 12 wickets, Noor Ahmad holds the Purple Cap but he has lacked support from the other end.
CSK will face Lucknow Super Giants in an away game on Monday (April 14). Another defeat at this stage could cost them big time and they will be pushed closer to an early elimination from the tournament. MS Dhoni is now leading CSK as Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out due to an elbow injury.
