Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL 2025 campaign went from bad to worse as the team suffered its fifth consecutive defeat and lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets. Batting has been a worry for CSK, who have struggled to put big scores on the board. The game against KKR was no different as the team could only score 103-9, a target that was achieved by KKR without breaking a sweat. MS Dhoni returned as captain of the team in the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was ruled out of the tournament; however, the fate didn't change and the team suffered an embarrassing loss.

CSK's poor performance in IPL 2025 has invited heavy criticism for the team. Former India cricketer Kris Srikkant lashed out at CSK for their 'Test match batting' and said that whole XI feels like it's running on nostalgia.

"One of CSK's worst defeats ever. Powerplay batting looked like a rehearsal for a test match. Whole XI feels like it's running on nostalgia. Time to think out of the box, why not try isome unsold players like Prithvi Shaw at this point? Would you try it? , even chaos is a strategy?" Srikkanth wrote on X.

Meanwhile, captain MS Dhoni addressed CSK's slow batting approach in the powerplay and said that if they do go for big shots early in the game, they would be in trouble, given the batting lineup they have.

"Our openers are good openers, play authentic cricket shots, they don't slog or look to hit across the line. It is important not to get desperate seeing the scorecard. If we start looking for 60 with our lineup it will be very difficult for us. Get partnerships going, maybe capitalise in the middle and later overs and if we lose wickets, the middle order has to do their job differently. And the slog will be delayed for quite a while."
