(L-R) Suryakumar Yadav, Jos Buttler After IND vs ENG 4th T20I
India captain Suryakumar Yadav hasn't been in great form in the ongoing five-match T20I series against England. The ace batter has scored 26 runs in four matches, including two ducks. India have already won the series after winning three out of the four games, but Surya's form would be a concern for India. The destructive batter would look to turn things around when India face England in the fifth T20I at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on February 2.
Meanwhile, if Suryakumar Yadav can find form in the fifth T20I, he could etch his name in history books. Surya needs four sixes in the fifth T20I to become the fastest to 150 sixes in T20I cricket among full ICC members, thus becoming the first player to reach the landmark in less than 100 matches. SKY currently has 146 sixes in 82 matches. Only one player has scored 150 sixes in less than 100 matches - UAE's Muhammad Waseem, and Suryakumar Yadav will be the first player from full ICC members if he manages to achieve the feat. Among Test-playing nations, the record is currently held by Martin Guptill, who reached the milestone in 105 matches. Former India captain Rohit Sharma scored 150 sixes in 119 matches.
After the T20I series, the teams will lock horns in the three-match ODI series that will serve as the preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy. Suryyakumar Yadav wasn't picked in the squad for the two events. Syurya was in the squad for the ODI World Cup 2023, but he lost his place after failing to grab opportunities. The Champions Trophy could be the final ODI tournament for a few players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and there will be a few slots up for grabs which Surya would like to take, but he will have to perform well in T20Is and domestic cricket to make a case for himself.
