Not a single Indian player has found their name in the ICC ODI Team Of The Year for 2024. Rohit Sharma led India to only three ODI matches against Sri Lanka last year and the Men In Blue failed to win two matches while the other one was tied.
Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka has been chosen as the captain of the team for his brilliant showing in white ball cricket. He amassed 605 runs in 16 ODI matches last year at an average of 50.02.
Pakistan sensation Saim Ayub is another highlight of this squad. The 22-year-old has made a name for himself and has quickly grabbed attention with his run-scoring antics. He announced his arrival in fashion as he struck 515 runs in 9 matches including three centuries.
Sri Lanka played 18 ODIs in the year gone by, the highest among all teams, and won 12 of them.
Pakistan picked up seven victories from its nine ODI engagements, while Afghanistan won eight of their 14 one-dayers.
Pakistan pace duo Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf also found themselves in the squad while Sherfane Rutherford happens to be the lone player from outside India.
Most of the players will be in action in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy which will be held in Pakistan while the Indian Cricket Team will be playing their matches in Dubai.
