Even as debates rage over BCCI's new set of diktats for Indian cricketers, the board has asked the state units to not provide separate vehicles for anyone and to ensure that all players travel by the team bus. The implementation of the 10-point policy guidelines for the Indian cricket team has begun with BCCI communicating to the Cricket Association of Bengal the aforementioned rule.
The Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav is in Kolkata for the T20I series opener against England at the Eden Gardens on January 22.
After the Australia series debacle, BCCI came out with a 10-point Standard Operating Procedure. According to it, all players are needed to stay for the entire duration of scheduled practice sessions and travel together to and from the venue. BCCI claims that this diktat ensures commitment and fosters a strong work ethic within the side.
India captain Rohit Sharma has already expressed his reservation on certain rules but according to a report in PTI, BCCI has already put at least one of the 10 rules in force.
The 10-point policy document outlining the new guidelines was shared with all state units hosting the India vs England games, including the Cricket Association of Bengal. India will fly to Chennai for the second T20I.
"In keeping with the BCCI’s 10-point guidelines for players, the Cricket Association of Bengal has not arranged any separate means of conveyance," Cricket Association of Bengal president Snehasish Ganguly told PTI.
"Only a team bus has been arranged for the Indian team. There won’t be any personal vehicles for the cricketers. We have to follow the guidelines, which clearly state that all players are expected to travel with the team to and from matches and practice sessions," Ganguly added.
It is not a punishment, said the chief selector Ajit Agarkar but Rohit on Saturday, January 18 expressed the Indian team's reservations towards the recent BCCI rule that placed restrictions on the time that players will get with their families while on tour.
