India skipper Rohit Sharma was on Sunday, January 19, seen inviting Shreyas Iyer to show his moves to some grooving Bollywood numbers during the Wankhede Stadium's 50th anniversary celebration in Mumbai. The duo were two among some of the famous names of Mumbai cricket who were invited to grace the occasion and make it a starry affair, with legends of the game present.
The celebration of the Wankhede Stadium's 50th anniversary, organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association, saw cricketing greats and the Mumbai crowd uniting in a brilliant atmosphere.
A video shared by the Mumbai Indians showed him gesturing towards Iyer, inviting him to join him on stage with some animated dance moves. Notably, Iyer is known as one of the best dancers in the Indian team. Watch the video here:
Standing beside Rohit was former India head coach Ravi Shastri, who presumably cracked a joke that had the former burst out in laughter.
Amid the celebrations, Rohit addressed the fans as well, offering hope to the crowd disappointed by India's recent dismal performances in Tests.
"I’m sure that the wishes of 140 crore Indians will be behind us when we land in Dubai for the Champions Trophy. We will try to do well and bring the Champions Trophy to the Wankhede Stadium," Rohit said at the event.
At the twilight of his international career, the Indian skipper would not mind getting immersed in a deluge of fans one last time if he can regain the Champions Trophy that he won 12 years back.
Shastri added his trademark charisma, reliving his historic six sixes in an over from a Ranji Trophy game at the Wankhede back in 1985.
The Mumbai Cricket Association honoured former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, Ajinkya Rahane and Sachin Tendulkar, besides all surviving members of Mumbai's first team that played a first-class game at the Wankhede.
