Not Shubman Gill! Suresh Raina Picks 36-Year-Old Legend To 'Win It For India' Vs Pakistan In Champions Trophy (Source: AP)
India will take on Pakistan in the blockbuster clash of the ICC Champions Trophy on February 23 at the Dubai International Stadium. Hosts Pakistan will have to play India in Dubai as the BCCI and PCB agreed on a hybrid model after the Indian cricket board refused to send the team to Pakistan due to security reasons.
India hold an edge over Pakistan in ICC events, however, the Men in Green defeated India when the two teams last met in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final. Chasing a target of 339, Indian team was blown away by a fiery spell from Mohammed Amir, who got the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan to leave India reeling.
Meanwhile, former India batter Suresh Raina weighed in on the blockbuster contest and said that both teams will have an even chance of winning the match. Raina, however, put his weight behind Virat Kohli to take India home with an out of the box performance.
"I think both of them will have a fifty percent chance. Virat Kohli will come again and win it for India; his performance will be out of the box," Star Sports Press Room show.
Kohli has been going through a lean run in Test cricket, but he will back himself to fire in ODIs, a format he is best in. Kohli also has a stellar record against Pakistan, scoring 678 runs in 16 matches at an average of over 50, including three hundreds and two fifties.
Meanwhile, Raina also backed Rohit Sharma to deliver 2019 like performance in the ICC Champions Trophy. “When Rohit wasn’t selected in the 2011 World Cup team, he felt really bad. Hence, he wanted to make it count in the Champions Trophy 2013. The conditions in Dubai will be completely different from the last time we won in England and he knows how to handle that situation. If Rohit ends up playing till 20–25 overs, I won’t be surprised if he repeats his 2019 World Cup heroics,” said Raina.
