Neeraj Chopra's Rise As India's Top Athlete
Neeraj grabbed the limelight after winning 2016 U-20 World Athletics Championship. He also won gold medals in Commonwealth Games and Asian Games in 2018. His biggest achievement though came in 2021 when Neeraj created history after winning a gold medal in Javelin at the Tokyo Olympics with a throw of 87.58. He was the front-runner to defend the gold at the Paris Olympics, however, he came second to Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem and won a silver for the country. After the Paris Olympics, there were rumours of Neeraj and Manu Bhaker, who won two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, however, the speculations were rubbished by Manu's father.
Neeraj Sets Sight On World Championship
Neeraj will next be seen in the Continental Tour javelin-only competition in India, however, the veteran's main focus is the World Championship.
“The season is over now. The biggest target for next year is the World Championship, and we will begin preparations for that now. The Olympics are always on our minds, but we have four years for that," Neeraj told PTI in September on the sidelines of a conference on ‘Mission Olympics 2036’ organized at the Sports University of Haryana.
“It was an injury-plagued year but injury is fine now, I will be 100% fit for the new season," he asserted. “Technical issues are also there but we will work on them. I will look to improve my technique. I do like to train in India but when competitions start, I prefer to train abroad," he said.
