Mumbai turned yellow on Saturday (January 18) as Coldplay performed in India after nine years as they took centre stage at the DY Patil Stadium with a jam-packed crowd in attendance in the first of three shows in the city and there was a special mention for Jasprit Bumrah.
Just as the British Rock Band started to perform their hit song 'SKY Full of Stars' to the audience's delight, lead singer Chris Martin brought the show to an abrupt halt and namedropped Bumrah. The 47-year-old paid the ultimate compliment to the star Indian pacer and labelled him as the best in the world.
"Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage. He (Bumrah) says he needs to bowl at me now. Best Bowler in the world," said Chris Martin. 'Can we wait for 10 minutes please, we love you Jasprit," he added.
Post this, Martin asked fans to keep their phones away for a memorable rendition of the 'SKY Full of Stars.'

For those unversed, as part of their Music of Sphere World Tour, Coldplay are in India and will perform five shows in two cities over the next week. They are scheduled to perform in Mumbai tonight and on Tuesday (January 21) before heading to Ahmedabad, where they will enthral a record crowd at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on January 25 and 26, respectively.
This is the first instance of the band performing inside a stadium in India. Their sole concert in the country before the current visit was in 2016 when they performed in Mumbai as part of the Global Citizen India initiative.
Talking about Bumrah, he was named in India's squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy on Saturday. However, chief selector Ajit Agarkar cast doubt over his fitness with doubts over whether he will be fit in time for the mega event after suffering a back injury in the Sydney Test against Australia.
The 31-year-old put up one of the greatest individual displays by an Indian player in an overseas Test series during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) as he took 32 wickets in five matches, which is the most in a bilateral away series by an Indian bowler in history.
