Lucknow Super Giants are all set to announce Rishabh Pant as their captain for IPL 2025. Pant emerged as the highest buy in the IPL history when LSG secured his service for a whopping INR 27 crore.

KL Rahul had led Lucknow in the last three seasons and the franchise also made it to the IPL playoffs in the initial two seasons. But LSG opted not to retain Rahul and Delhi Capitals picked up the Indian batter for 32 year old and he could be the like-for-like captaincy replacement of Pant.

Lucknow were involved in an intense match-up with Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL 2025 mega auction and initially coughed up a staggering 20.75 crore. But Delhi had the right to match card and LSG quoted 27 crore as their final price to bag the 27 year old.

As per an IANS report, Lucknow owner RPSG group could make the announcement when they hold a special press conference in Kolkata on Monday. The report says, “Some franchise officials IANS spoke to have said either of the two things or both could happen in Monday's press conference: the announcement of a new LSG captain or unveiling of the franchise's new jersey, considering that some players of the team are likely to be in attendance.”

As per IANS, there were also other captaincy contenders in the squad with the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. Zaheer Khan has been announced as the mentor for the upcoming ISL campaign while Justin Langer has been appointed as the head coach of the IPL side.

Both Pant and Rahul have been named in India's squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
