India have announced the squad for the Champions Trophy squad and the three-match ODI series against England preceding it. There were not many surprises in the squad that Rohit Sharma will lead. However, there have been some big names who have not been selected in both the squad. One of the big names missing out is star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson. The Kerala star is now an automatic choice in the T20I squad but misses out on the two important ODI assignments in February and March.

There were many reports prior to the announcement of the squad that Sanju Samson was in line to be selected as the backup wicketkeeper-batter, with Rishabh Pant not finding his feet in ODIs. However, Samson was not selected for the squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025, despite being the captain of the side in the Ranji Trophy.

Reports have stated that Samson did not attend the Kerala camp set up by the Kerala Cricket Association prior to the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Instead, he chose to stay back, and hence the KCA did not select him for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. According to a report by India Today, this did not sit well with the BCCI selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar. Hence, he was not selected for the ODI series vs England and the Champions Trophy 2025

India have selected KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant in the squads for the Champions Trophy 2025 and the ODI series vs England. Rahul might be the first-choice wicketkeeper in the 50-over format, like he has done in the ODI World Cup 2023.
