Not Hardik Pandya Or Jasprit Bumrah! India Pick 25-Year-Old Batter As Vice-Captain For ICC Champions Trophy (Source: Ap)

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy and the three-match ODI series against England. Jasprit Bumrah was included in the India squad despite fitness concerns. Bumrah picked up an injury during the fifth Test against Australia and was doubtful for the Champions Trophy. The ace pacer will miss the England ODIs, with Harshit Rana taking his place, however, he will be part of the Champions Trophy squad, but his availability will be subjected to fitness. On Bumrah's availability, Ajit Agarkar said that the team will get a fitness update on Bumrah early in February after which a clear call on Bumrah can be made.
India's squad for the Champions Trophy saw a few key players make a comeback to the team, including Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav. Ravindra Jadeja was also included in the squad despite concerns about his form. Mohammed Siraj was dropped following an extended lean run, while Sanju Samson and Karun Nair were also not picked.

Meanwhile, India also announced the new vice-captain for the ICC Champions Trophy. In the ODI World Cup, Hardik Pandya was the vice-captain of the team, however, the selectors preferred Shubman Gill as Rohit Sharma's deputy for the mega event. Gill is likely to take over as India captain once Rohit Sharma retires provided he keeps his form. The selectors added Yashasvi Jaiswal as a backup opener in the team, however, with Gill confirmed as the vice-captain, he is highly likely to play all matches.
India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Stadium.
