Rohit Sharma will play the upcoming Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai on January 23rd at the BKC. It will be a rare opportunity for domestic cricket fans to witness the Hitman in action, and his presence will surely boost Mumbai's morale and inspire the team's youngsters.
However, addressing the media at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday, the 37-year-old also reminded everyone about the workload issues that make it difficult for international cricketers to follow.
"For the last 6-7 years, if you look at our calendar, we haven't been sitting home for 45 days when cricket has been going on. You do get time when IPL finishes when nothing happens after that. Our domestic season begins in October and ends in March. Guys who are not playing all formats and when there's domestic cricket happening, they can play," he said.
"For me personally, since I've started playing Test cricket regularly, you hardly get time. When you regularly play international cricket, you need time off to refresh. Nobody takes it for granted"," he added.
When chief selector Ajit Agarkar was asked about the new SOPs for players put out by the BCCI after the Australia tour, the former India pacer said, "Every team has a few rules in place, and when playing, you follow the rules. It's not a school it's not a punishment. You inherently follow certain things, as every team does. Many of them have been in place in any case, and you keep refining it as you go along."
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya were spotted training ahead of India's white-ball series against England. The video footage of the practice at the Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai was posted on social media by an employer of the company.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma had expressed his interest in training with the Mumbai Ranji team earlier. He had approached the head coach, Omkar Salavi, and enquired when they would train for the next Ranji match.
