Ahead of India’s Champions Trophy squad selection, Karu Nair has been the hot topic as he continues to mesmerize with his brilliant form in domestic cricket. The 33-year-old starred again for Vidarbha with a brilliant 44-ball 88 innings against Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinal.
Calls have been very louder to add the former KKR and RCB batter to India’s Champions Trophy squad which will be announced in Mumbai on January 18. Now legend Sachin Tendulkar sent a message to the Ajit Agarkar-led Indian selectors by heaping rave praise on Nair.
He took to X to post, “Scoring 752 runs in 7 innings with 5 centuries is nothing short of extraordinary, @karun126. Performances like these don’t just happen, they come from immense focus and hard work. Keep going strong and make every opportunity count!”
Sachin has been very vocal on social media and has often been seen giving shoutouts to players in the aftermath of a good performance.
Nair missed out on his eighth consecutive century by a whisker and it was his innings which proved to be enough for Vidarbha to secure their maiden spot in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final.
Karun has amassed 752 runs in seven innings with an astonishing average of 752 for him being unbeaten in six matches. Nair could also script a history if he adds 79 runs more in the VHT final. He has the chance to overtake Tamil Nadu’s Narayan Jagadeesan as the highest scorer in the history of the tournament. Jagadeesan accumulated 830 runs in the 2022/23 edition.
Rohit Sharma is all set to captain the team at another ICC event. India will play all their matches in Dubai and will open their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 followed by the big ticket clash against Pakistan on February 23.
