World No. 1 Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia enthralled a packed house in Belgium as they clinched the Brussels Premier Padel, staging a great comeback against Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto at the iconic Tour & Taxis Gare Maritime in the Belgian capital on Sunday.
This was Coello and Tapia's second successive Premier Padel title. Last week, they had defeated Galán and Chingotto - the champions from the last edition of the tournament - to win the Qatar Major Premier Padel. This was their ninth consecutive win against Galán and Chingotto.
After losing the opening set 2-6, the turning point of the match came in the second set at 3-3. After countless break points, the top seeded pair finally broke serve, triggering a sequence of breaks and counter-breaks that allowed Coello and Tapia to force a decider by winning the set 6-4.
The third set was rather easy for Martín Canali’s players as they sealed the contest with a commanding 6-1 win.
With this thrilling win, they secured their third title of the season after Riyadh P1 and the Qatar Major. Tapia and Coello have now won 21 Premier Padel titles together.
After their thumping win, Tapia talked about their domination in the field. “We always try to send the message that to beat us, you're going to have to run a lot more than we do. When you send that message, you grow stronger mentally. Our titles in Qatar and Brussels show that we are in a great moment both physically and mentally, playing with a lot of confidence," he said.
Meanwhile, in the women's final, Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría of Spain prevailed over Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay to break their jinx. Coming into the final with a 0-3 head-to-head record, the top-seeded pairing won in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) to claim their second title of the season.
Facing Brea and Triay for the fourth time in 2025, Sánchez and Josemaría found their best form and maintained their focus even during a dramatic final, saving several break points before sealing the victory on their sixth championship point. This was their 13th Premier Padel title.
After the victory, an elated Josemaría said: “We are very, very happy with this title and finally managing to beat Gemma and Delfi, against whom victories had eluded us. We worked very hard for this match, and the feelings are just incredible.”
With the end of Brussels Premier Padel, the players will now head into a long break. The next event on the calendar, the Asuncion Premier Padel in Paraguay - a P2 event - will be held from May 18-25.
