Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will not be able to call the services of Mohammed Shami as they attempt to defend a total of 143 against Mumbai Indians in the ongoing 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL,) despite Pat Cummins claiming he will be their impact sub at the toss.
SRH were forced into a change of plans after their top order crumbled post Hardik Pandya's decision to bowl first. The Hyderabad-based outfit were 35-5 in the ninth over as the MI pacers ran riot. SRH decided to arrest the collapse by sending Abhinav Manohar as the impact sub, which means Shami cannot come in to bowl leaving the side short of a bowling option
For those unversed, Pat Cummins revealed at the toss that Jaydev Unadkat had come into the main XI with Shami in the impact sub list, which indicated that he would come to bowl in the second innings. In SRH's last match against MI last week at the Wankhede Stadium, where they also batted first, Shami was part of the main XI and Rahul Chahar came on as the impact sub in the second innings despite Unadkat being nominated.
After joining SRH post the 2025 IPL Mega Auction for a whopping price of Rs. 10 crore, Shami has had a nightmare season so far with just five wickets in seven matches at an economy of 10.88.
