The BCCI are all set to make massive changes in the Team India support staff ahead of the tour to England, where they will play five Test matches. There have been several reports that have stated that the board is likely to sack four members of Gautam Gambhir's backroom staff for the Indian team, including assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Hours after the reports came into the fore, it looks like Nayar has already found his next destination.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Abhishek Nayar is likely to join the Kolkata Knight Riders after his sacking from the Indian Team. His contributions for KKR are highly valued by the franchise and hence the doors might be open for him.
He joined the KKR team in 2018, and played a significant role in shaping careers of several stars including Rinku Singh. He was the assistant coach of the KKR side that won the IPL in 2024.

'Powerful' Member Of Team India Behind Abhishek Nayar's Sacking

According to a report by PTI, a 'powerful member' of the Team India support staff suggested the removal of Abhishek Nayar, as his presence in the dressing room was 'counter-productive'. The report also claims that Sitanshu Kotak was hired as the new Team India batting coach before the Champions Trophy 2025 to slowly push Nayar out of the system.
"Just after the tour of Australia, there was a review meeting conducted by the BCCI. The top officials of the board, including secretary Devajit Saikia and vice-president Rajeev Shukla, were present along with important members associated with the Indian team, and the national selectors," a BCCI source told PTI.
"On the sidelines of the meeting, a powerful member of the support staff expressed his apprehensions about Nayar's presence and said how him being in the dressing room is proving to be counter-productive. While the BCCI didn't act immediately, but they brought in Kotak, the former Saurashtra run-accumulator. It was a way of sidelining Nayar during the Champions Trophy," the source added.
