
EXPLAINED: What Is A Super Over And What Are Rules In IPL 2025

The Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals IPL 2025 match has witnessed a first occurrence in the tournament this year. The match has gone into the super over, as the IPL will witness a first such occurrence in this edition of the tournament after both teams scored 188 runs each in IPL 2025.
What Is Super Over?
When both teams play out a tie in a T20 match anywhere around the world, then the match result is decided by virtue of a Super Over. Both teams play one over each in turn, and the team that scores the most rins at the end wins the game.
The team that bats second, which is the Rajasthan Royals in this case, will bat first, while the team that batted first will chase the runs in this Super Over situation. Each team has only two wickets, and if these two fall, then the team will be declared 'all out', and the pver will be declared null and void from there on.
How Did DC vs RR Match Run Into Super Over?
Delhi Capitals got off to a good start with Abhishek Porel playing some shots. However, they lost their first wicket in the third over as Jake Fraser-McGurk continued his poor form with a 9-run innings. Karun Nair was run out due to a horrible mix up in the middle. He departed for a duck after scoring 89 vs MI. KL Rahul and Porel then put on a big half-century stand for the third wicket, before Rahul departed for 34 runs. Porel departed shortly after, as he missed his half-century by one run. The Capitals then accelerated in the final five overs of the innings, scoring 77 runs. Captain Axar Patel slammed 34 from 14 balls. Tristan Stubbs also hit 34 from 18 as Delhi Capitals scored 188/5 at the end of 20 overs.
Openers Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal have got Rajasthan Royals off to a great start with a half-century stand for the first wicket. Samson then left the field after injuring his ribs, thus being retired out. Riyan Parag was the first RR wicket to fall as Axar Patel took his first wicket of IPL 2025. Jaiswal went on to score his third half-century in the last four games in IPL 2025. Jaiswal departed moments after slamming his fifty. Nitish Rana went on to slam a quick-fire half-century, but was removed by Mitchell Starc. RR also scored 188/9 as the match went to a super over.
