MS Dhoni rewinded the clock on Monday (April 14) with an unbeaten knock of just 26 in 11 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to lead Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a five-wicket victory at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow which saw the five-time champions end an unprecedented five-match losing streak.
Dhoni, whose batting position and approach has faced criticism this season, walked out to bat at number five with five overs to spare and the visiting team 58 runs away from victory. The 43-year-old played a vintage knock to guide his team to victory with four boundaries and one maximum.
As a result, Dhoni became the oldest captain in IPL history to win a match and also broke an 11-year-old record to become the oldest player in the world's richest cricket league to be awarded the Player of the Match (POTM) award.
While Dhoni sent a stern message to his critics, his fitness status has become a source of concern after the match. The CSK captain was spotted limping while completing a run during the match as well as the post-match presentation. Later, post-match visuals from outside the stadium showed Dhoni struggling with a knee issue as the teams returned to the hotel, which sparked fears over an injury.

MS Dhoni's Frequent Knee Issues

Since the 2023 season, Dhoni has been evidently struggling with an issue in his knee but has continued to play the league and remarkably keep wickets. Infact, the five-time IPL-winning captain underwent a knee surgery in Mumbai days after leading the Super Kings to the title in 2023 after a dramatic victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
Since his international retirement in 2020, Dhoni's IPL future has been a source of speculation every year. Ahead of the 2025 IPL Mega Auction, Dhoni was retained as an uncapped player for Rs. 4 crore.
