- India beat New Zealand in the final at Dubai
After no Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official was controversially present during the presentation ceremony of the 2025 Champions Trophy (CT) final in Dubai last month as India were handed the trophy, it has now emerged that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not attend the first meeting of the world cricket governing body in Harare recently.
For those unversed, a major storm blew up after the host nation had no representation during the final of the mega event. Earlier, Pakistan lost the right to host the summit clash as the tournament's hybrid model meant that India will play all their matches in Dubai, including the final.
In the days post the final, the PCB launched a protest against the ICC over its official not being invited to the stage and asked for an explanation, which was not provided. The world cricket governing have stated that only elected members of the board are allowed on the stage and since Mohsin Naqvi was not present in Dubai, PCB were ignored from the guest list for the presentation. Infact, PCB CEO Sumair Ahmed was the only senior official from the host country board present in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the final of what was the first global event held in Pakistan after 29 years.
Mohsin Naqvi Skips ICC Meeting
As per a report by Press Trust of India, Naqvi did not travel to Zimbabwe for the quarterly ICC meeting due to 'pending personal business in Pakistan.' It is worth noting that the PCB chairman is also the interior minister in the Pakistan government. PCB CEO Ahmed represented Pakistan in the ICC meetings.
The same report reveals that there has been silence from Pakistan on whether the issue snub in the final was raised in the ICC meeting. PCB and ICC have yet to finalise the financial matters from the mega event.
In the absence of any PCB Offical, the Champions Trophy final presentation was attended by ICC Chairman Jay Shah, BCCI secretary and president Devajit Saikia and Roger Binny alongside New Zealand Cricket Director Roger Twose.
