Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally ended their five-match losing streak as they secured a 5-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. MS Dhoni was the star of the show as he turned back the clock with an 11-ball 26 -run knock at the end, remaining unbeaten and steering his team across the finishing line, like he has done so often throughout his legendary career. He also won the Player of the Match for his sensational performance. However, Dhoni himself named someone else as the one who deserved this award more.

In the post-match interaction after their win, CSK captain MS Dhoni said that he was surprised that he won the Player of the Match award. He named star Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad as someone who deserved the award. He also mentioned the fact that Noor and Ravindra Jadeja bowled four-five overs together with the new ball, which really solidified their grasp on the game.

“Even today I was like, ‘Why are they giving me the award?’ I feel Noor bowled really well. With the new ball and when Noor and Jaddu bowled four-five overs together – these were the two phases where we did really well," Dhoni said.

Noor Ahmad was the pick of the CSK bowlers as he gave away 13 runs in his 4 overs, even though he did not take a single wicket.

MS Dhoni has now become the oldest player to pick up a Player of the Match award in IPL history at 43 years and 280 days. He broke the record of Pravin Tambe, who won the Player of the Match award in IPL 2014 vs KKR at an age of 42 years and 208 days.

He last won the Player of the Match award in the IPL back in 2019 against Delhi Capitals at Chepauk, where he scored 44 runs, and executed two stumpings. He thus won his first Player of the Match award in 2175 days.
