Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally ended their disastrous five-match losing streak on Monday (April 14) as they secured a win against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium. Captain MS Dhoni was the star of the run chase as he turned back the clock, showing everyone why he is regarded as one of the greatest finishers in the history of the game. With his whirlwind knock, he managed to break a massive IPL record that was 11 years old.

MS Dhoni smashed an unbeaten 26 runs from 11 balls in an innings studded with 4 fours and 1 six. He stood tall at the end, stitching an unbeaten 58-run partnership with Shivam Dube, as they chased down 166 in the final over of the match. Dhoni earned the Player of the Match for his short but impactful knock.

The CSK captain now becomes the oldest player to pick up a Player of the Match award in IPL history at 43 years and 280 days. He broke the record of Pravin Tambe who won the Player of the Match award in IPL 2014 vs KKR at an age of 42 years and 208 days.

MS Dhoni last won the Player of the Match award in the IPL back in 2019 against Delhi Capitals at Chepauk, where he scored 44 runs, and executed two stumpings. He thus won his first Player of the Match award in 2175 days.

With his 17th Player of the Match award in IPL history as CSK skipper, he continues his streak as the captain with the most such awards. This is also his 18th award, and this makes him the Indian with the joint second-highest Player of the Match award in IPL history alongside Virat Kohli.
