Chennai Super Kings have not had the best of times in the IPL 2025. After winning their first game of the season against Mumbai Indians, they suffered five consecutive losses and were languishing at the bottom of the table. They finally bounced back as they registered their second win of the season on April 14 (Monday) against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. While they are bottom of the table, they still have a chance to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs.

CSK are currently in the 10th position on the IPL 2025 points table with two wins and five losses from 7 games and 4 points on the board. They have 7 games left in the IPL 2025 campaign. If they 6 of their 7 remaining games, then they will accumulate 16 points, which has been enough for the past few seasons to qualify for the playoffs. They also have to ensure that if any team is on 16 points at the end of the league stage, like them, then they have a better Net Run Rate than them.

If they win all 7 of their remaining games, then they will definitely qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs, and might even have a chance of finishing in the top 2.

MS Dhoni was the star of the show vs LSG as he turned back the clock with an 11-ball 26-run knock at the end, remaining unbeaten and steering his team across the finishing line, like he has done so often throughout his legendary career. He also won the Player of the Match for his sensational performance.

MS Dhoni has now become the oldest player to pick up a Player of the Match award in IPL history at 43 years and 280 days. He broke the record of Pravin Tambe, who won the Player of the Match award in IPL 2014 vs KKR at an age of 42 years and 208 days.

He last won the Player of the Match award in the IPL back in 2019 against Delhi Capitals at Chepauk, where he scored 44 runs, and executed two stumpings. He thus won his first Player of the Match award in 2175 days.
