In reply, CSK got off to a good start, with Shaik Rasheed Rachin Ravindra giving a fast start. The duo reached 50 in the first five overs but departed soon after. Thereafter, CSK lost wickets in the middle overs, which slowed their run rate and upped the asking rate. However, with the entry of the legendary MS Dhoni, the game swung towards the yellow brigade. Along with Shivam Dube, Dhoni stitched a 50-run partnership to carve out CSK's second win of the season.
