Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) are struggling in IPL 2025 and with only 2 wins from 6 matches, they are reeling at the 7th spot in the points table. Hardik has had a disappointing run as MI's captain since taking over the job in 2024. Under him, MI finished at the last spot in the IPL 2024 points table and they are struggling in the ongoing season.
Amid MI's below-par performance, a fan suggested Nita Ambani to reappoint Rohit Sharma as MI's captain. "Rohit Ko Captain Karo Madam," the fan told her. The MI owner came up with a polite response to the fan's suggestion.
Rohit kicked off his IPL captaincy career during IPL 2013. He took over the job after Ricky Ponting stepped down during the middle of the season. Rohit did the unthinkable and captained MI to their maiden IPL title win.
MI repeated their heroics in IPL 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Rohit continued to lead the team till IPL 2023. Their below-par performances after IPL 2020 saw the management making a big call to bring back Hardik from Gujarat Titans (GT) via trade.
Hardik, who captained GT in IPL 2022 and 2023, took over MI's captaincy and replaced Rohit. The captaincy change happened a month after Rohit led India to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Rohit, who played IPL 2024 under Hardik, continued to lead the Men in Blue and captained them to a title win in the T20 World Cup. Hardik was Rohit's deputy in the ICC event.
MI retained Rohit, Hardik, Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Before the auction, they confirmed that Hardik would continue as their captain.
Suryakumar Yadav is also part of the leadership group and he led MI in their first game of the season. Hardik missed the fixture due to a one-match ban.
