Abhishek Sharma slammed a magnificent 141 off just 55 balls as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) chased down a huge target of 246 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their sixth game of the season. Abhishek and Travis Head provided a dream start to SRH and added 171 runs for the first wicket in just 12.2 overs. Head departed for 66 off 37 balls while Abhishek continued to bat.
Abhishek, who hadn't even hit one six in his first 5 outings of the ongoing season, cleared the ropes 10 times against PBKS. He batted with a strike rate of 256.36 and completed his century off just 40 balls.
Abhishek Sharma created history and etched his name in history books as he breached the 100-run mark. He now holds the record for being the quickest Indian centurion for SRH. He is followed by Ishan Kishan, who took 45 balls to score a century in his debut game for SRH earlier in the season.
Overall, the record belongs to Head, Abhishek's opening partner. He slammed a 39-ball ton against Royal Challengers Bengaluru during IPL 2024. David Warner sits at the third spot. SRH's only IPL-winning captain so far, Warner scored his fastest century for them during IPL 2017.
Abhishek returned to form at the right time and SRH will hope that he performs regularly. Courtesy of this win, SRH finally left the last spot in the points table and moved to the 8th position. They are followed by Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, respectively. With 4 wins from as many matches, Delhi Capitals sit at the top spot.
SRH have a few days' break and they will make their on-field return against Mumbai Indians (MI) in an away game on April 17. Six days later, they will host MI at their home. SRH will then travel to Chennai to face the Yellow Army on April 25.
