All eyes were on Babar Azam when Peshawar Zalmi squared off against Quetta Gladiators in the 2nd match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 on Saturday (April 12). Babar was recently dropped from the T20I squad and he is eyeing a comeback in the shortest format. The Peshawar captain had a forgettable outing in his maiden T20 innings since getting dropped and he departed for a duck.
Opening the innings in the chase to the big target of 217, Babar walked back off the second ball he faced. Quetta pacer Mohammad Amir got the prized scalp of the former Pakistan captain.
The left-arm pacer was elated with this scalp and his celebration quickly went viral on X. Amir, who also works as a cricket expert, has often slammed Babar. In 2024, Amir came out of retirement and played the T20 World Cup under him. He retired for the second time in December last year.
Peshawar continued to lose regular wickets in the big chase and they were never in contention. Saim Ayub scored a half-century for them. Abrar Ahmed shone with the ball and took a four-fer for Quetta. Amir and Usman Tariq scalped 2 wickets each.
Saud Shakeel and Finn Allen did the job with the bat for Quetta and added 88 runs for the first wicket. Allen slammed 53 off 25 balls while Saud hit 59 off 42 balls. Kusal Mendis (35 off 14) and Rilee Rossouw (21 off 10) remained unbeaten in the big total.
Quetta's big 80-run win sees them sit at the top spot in the points table with a solid NRR of +4.00. They are followed by Islamabad United, who also have 2 points. Peshawar have an NRR of -4.00. Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings are locking horns in the second game of the day on Saturday (April 12).
