Suryakumar Yadav added the cherry to Mumbai Indians' (MI) cake on Monday (March 31) and entered his name in the record books as the five-time champions registered their first win of the season after a thumping victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets with 43 balls to spare at the Wankhede Stadium.
The Indian T20I captain walked out to bat with MI close to a victory and wasted no time to ensure the Hardik Pandya-led side got a major Net Run Rate (NNR) boost. Suryakumar made 27 runs in just nine balls, with three boundaries and two maximums to his name at a strike-rate of 300.

Through the course of the knock, Suryakumar completed 8000 runs in his T20 career and became the fifth Indian after Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, and Shikhar Dhawan to achieve the feat. The three-time IPL champion has made 2598 runs in his international career, while the rest have come in domestic or franchise cricket, including 3698 in the IPL.
Suryakumar is the fastest Indian and second-quickest player in the world to reach the feat (by balls) behind Andre Russell.

Suryakumar (152.28) is the only the first Indian to have more than 8000 runs in the shortest format with a strike-rate above 150. He also has the second best average among Indian players to achieve the feat behind Virat Kohli.

Across the world, he is just the fifth player to achieve the rare feat after Russell (168.63), Glenn Maxwell (154.55), Kieron Pollard (150.19), Ab de Villiers (150.13). Among the players to hit more than 8000 runs at a strike-rate above 50, Suryakumar (34.21) has the second-best average behind de Villiers (37.24). Pollard (31.33) is the only other player with an average above 30.
