The Men in Blue are enjoying a one-week-long break since their win over Pakistan on Sunday (February 23). India will make their on-field return against New Zealand on March 2. Both teams have already qualified for the semi-final and it's a dead rubber for them. The winning team will finish at the top spot in the Group A points table.
All eyes will be on Virat Kohli, who slammed a match-winning century against Pakistan. Virat propelled the 2013 Champions Trophy winners to the semi-final of the ICC event.
Virat, who became the quickest batsman to score 14000 ODI runs during the game against Pakistan, is set for another record. He is just one match away from donning his 300th ODI cap.
Virat will join Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in an elite list and will become the 7th player to play 300 ODIs for India when he takes the field against New Zealand.
Indians to play most ODIs Matches played
Sachin Tendulkar 463
MS Dhoni 347
Rahul Dravid 340
Mohammed Azharuddin 334
Sourav Ganguly 308
Yuvraj Singh 301
Virat Kohli 299
Sachin tops the list of Indians to play most ODIs. The Master Blaster played 463 ODIs. He is followed by MS Dhoni, who played 347 ODIs. Rahul Dravid played 340 ODIs for India before quitting the game.
Virat made his ODI debut in 2008. He became a regular member of the team in 2011. He became the backbone of India's batting line-up in 2012 and there has been no looking back for him since then.
Virat joined MS Dhoni in the leadership group in 2012 and made his captaincy debut in 2013. Early in 2017, Virat replaced Dhoni as India's white-ball captain. He was already leading India in Test cricket since 2014/15.
Virat's performance improved after being named the captain. In 2018, he broke Sachin's record to become the fastest batsman to score 10000 ODI runs. Virat's ODI captaincy ended on a shocking note as he was sacked from the top job. He was replaced by Rohit Sharma, who continues to lead India's Test and ODI teams.
