MS Dhoni is set to make his on-field return on March 23 when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians in a home game. CSK retained Dhoni in the uncapped category for Rs 4 crore. The India legend has joined the Yellow Army's camp and kicked off preparations for the 18th edition of the T20 league.
Dhoni is set to create history in IPL 2025 and he can achieve a huge milestone for CSK. With 4669 runs, he is presently CSK's second-highest run-scorer. He is just 19 runs away from becoming their top-scorer.
With 4687 runs, Suresh Raina acquires the top spot in the elite list. Once IPL's highest run-scorer, Raina averaged 32.32 for his 4687 runs for CSK in IPL. His tally includes 1 century and 33 half-centuries.

Faf du Plessis acquires the third spot. He scored 2721 runs for CSK in IPL. He joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2022 mega-auction. Delhi Capitals bought him in the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
Dhoni can break Raina's record in CSK's very first match. He comes down late in the batting order and faces very few balls now. Dhoni will continue to play under Ruturaj Gaikwad's leadership.

Virat Kohli tops the overall list of batsmen with the most runs in IPL. The future ICC Hall of Famer has scored 8004 runs in 252 matches. He is the only batsman in IPL's history to score more than 8000 runs. He started his career with RCB and has been with them since 2008.
Shikhar Dhawan acquires the second position. Dhawan, who retired from Indian cricket in August 2024, scored 6769 runs in 222 matches. He was part of Punjab Kings from IPL 2022 to 2024.
