Pakistan hosted an ICC tournament for the first time since 1996, when they played hosts to the Champions Trophy 2025. Unfortunately, their campaign in this home ICC tournament has been nothing short of horrific. They have been knocked out of the tournament in just 5 days after losses to New Zealand and India in their first two games. They unfortunately finished their campaign without a single win as their final game against Bangladesh was washed out due to rain. This disastrous campaign might have an effect on the future of their star players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi.
According to a report by Cricket Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a comprehensive review of the team's performance after the Champions Trophy 2025 debacle. This might include a massive change in the squad with players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah facing the axe.

Rift In Dressing Room Between Mohammad Rizwan, Aaqib Javed
The Cricket Pakistan report also stated that there has been a rift in the Pakistan dressing room between captain Mohammad Rizwan and head coach Aaqib Javed.
Mohammad Rizwan appeared frustrated because of their lack of consultation with him on key decisions with regards to the team selection. The Pakistan captain advocated for the inclusion of Khushdil Shah. Howeve, Aaqib Javed went ahead and selected Faheem Ashraf in the squad without consulting Rizwan. The selection committee and the Pakistan skipper were not on the same page.
Pakistan Create Embarrassing Record
Pakistan finished the tournament with 1 point on the board with a Net Run Rate of -1.087. They thus finished bottom of the table without a single win to their name. Since the group stages were introduced in the 2002 edition, Pakistan have become the first host nation to finish bottom of the table without a single win on the board.
