After a match-winning century against Pakistan in India's memorable victory by six-wickets at the Dubai International Stadium, Virat Kohli will take the field on Sunday (March 2) in India's last league stage match of the tournament against New Zealand with a major record in sight.
Kohli shattered the records books in the match against Pakistan by becoming only the third player in cricket history to score 14000 runs in ODI cricket after Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. After completing the milestone in 287 innings, Kohli broke Tendulkar's record (350 innings) for being the quickest to complete the elusive feat.

Virat Kohli 52 Runs Away From History vs New Zealand

Kohli can continue his record-breaking campaign against New Zealand as he is just 52 runs away from becoming India's highest run-getter in the history of the Champions Trophy. The record currently belongs to Shikhar Dhawan, who made 701 runs in just 10 innings at an average of 77.88 with three centuries and half-centuries each to his name.
As far as Kohli is concerned, he has scored 651 runs in 14 innings at an average of 93 with five half-centuries and one ton to his name. Sourav Ganguly is currently India's second-highest run-getter in the marquee event's history with 665 runs in 11 innings at an average of 73.88 with three tons and half-centuries each.

The world record for the tournament's highest run-getter is also in Kohli's reach as he is just 140 runs away from Gayle's tally of 790 runs.
Kohli's average of 93 is the highest in the tournament highest among players with more than 300 runs with no other player averaging more than 80.
Kohli's tally of six 50+ scores is also the joint most in Champions Trophy history alongside Dhawan, Ganguly, and Dravid.
