India and Pakistan last faced each other in the Champions Trophy 2025 match at the Dubai Internaional Stadium, which the Men In Blue comprehensively won by 6 wickets. The two arch rivals now only face each other in ICC or ACC events. The last time the two played a bilateral series was way back in 2012/13. While fans of both teams eagerly wait for another bilateral contest between the two arch-rivals, legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar has listed the only condition in which this can happen.
In an interaction on the Ten Sports show, DP World Dressing Room, Sunil Gavaskar has said that the only way that India and Pakistan can play a bilateral series is if the governments of both nations ensure that there is peace at the borders.
"By frankly having peace at the borders... (How can India and Pakistan play a bilateral series?) It’s very simple. If there's peace at the borders, then I think both governments will certainly say, 'Look, okay, we've had no incidents, nothing at all. So let's at least start talking,'" Sunil Gavaskar
Some Back Channel Connections Going On: Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar also believes that some back-channel connection are going on to make it happen. However, until any solution happens, there might never be any talks of any bilateral series.
"I'm pretty certain there will be some back-channel connections going on. But you want to see what's happening both on the ground and off the ground because of the fact that there are incursions we hear about. That’s the reason why the Indian government is saying, 'Look, maybe until all that stops, we should not even look at having or talking about anything,'"
When Will India Vs Pakistan Happen Next?
We might get to see multiple India vs Pakistan matches later this year when the Asia Cup 2025 happens. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the tournament is set to be held in September. The two arch-rivals will be placed in the same group. There is a chance that they take on each other two more times in the Super 4 stages and the final as well, if they qualify.
