Pakistan have had a horrific run in the Champions Trophy 2025. They became the fourth host nation to be knocked out of the Group stage of the Champions Trophy after they lost their first two matches against New Zealand and India. Their campaign was made even worse, when reports started floating around that their star opening batter Fakhar Zaman was set to retire from ODI cricket after this disastrous campaign. He even reportedly planned to move abroad with his family. The star batter, who is currently out injured, has finally responded to these rumours.
Speaking to Geo News after rumours of his retirement started circulating, Fakhar Zaman has dismissed all reports as 'baseless'. He has said that there is no ruth in his retirement news, and he will join the team soon after becoming fully fit.
"There is no truth in the retirement news. I will be fully fit and join the team soon," Fakhar said.
Fakhar Zaman Injured
Fakhar Zaman suffered an oblique injury while fielding during Pakistan's opening encounter against New Zealand. He came out to bat at no.4 during that match and looked in significant discomfort. He could only manage to score 24 from 41 deliveries. It was later declared that he would be ruled out of the tournament. Imam-Ul-Haq was drafted in as his replacement in the Pakistan squad.
The star Pakistan opener is currently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy in Pakistan.
PCB Try To Convince Fakhar Zaman
According to a report by PTI, a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that they have advised Fakhar Zaman to not take any decision in haste.
"He has been advised to take a break and first get completely fit and healthy before he makes any decision. Fakhar has been told after that he can take a decision on his ODI career but to do nothing in frustration or haste," the source said.
