Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been handed a two-game touchline ban by the Football Association following his red card during the Merseyside derby on February 12.
The incident occurred after the 2-2 draw at Everton when Slot confronted referee Michael Oliver on the pitch. Slot could be seen speaking with Oliver before exchanging an aggressive handshake, prompting the referee to issue a red card. Along with Slot, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure, and assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff were also sent off in the aftermath of the match.
Slot's two-match ban means he will miss Liverpool's upcoming home fixture against Newcastle on February 28 and the visit of Southampton on March 8. However, he will be available on the touchline for Liverpool’s Champions League first-leg tie with Paris Saint-Germain on March 5. In addition to the ban, Slot was fined £70,000 after accepting the charge.
Hulshoff received a similar two-match ban and a £7,000 fine. Both Liverpool and Everton were fined £65,000 and £50,000, respectively, for failing to control their players. The chaotic scenes followed James Tarkowski’s last-minute equalizer, which was controversial as Liverpool believed it should have been disallowed for a push on defender Ibrahima Konate.
