Afghanistan are taking on England in a must-win encounter for both sides in the Champions Trophy 2025 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the Afghans were reeling as Jofra Archer rattled them with their pace in the first powerplay, picking up 3 wickets. However, the resilient side has made a solid comeback since then, and it is thanks to their batting powerhouse Ibrahim Zadran. The star batter has now become the first player in the world to achieve a massive feat.
Ibrahim Zadran has pulled things back for Afghanistan strongly for Afghanistan as he scored a scintillating century. This is a historic knock as this marks Afghanistan's first century in the Champions Trophy. Zadran also scored Afghanistan's first century in ODI World Cup history against Australia in 2023. He thus becomes the first player in history to score his country's first century in both the World Cup and the Champions Trophy.
Ibrahim Zadran got out after scoring 177. He thus broke Ben Duckett's world record, as he registered the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history.
This is also Zadran's 6th ton in ODIs. He now becomes Afghanistan's joint second-highest century maker in ODIs, equalling the tally of Mohammad Shahzad. The only player ahead of him is Rahmanullah Gurbaz with 6 ODI tons.
Zadran's ton was also the 10th hundred in the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy. This is the joint-most in a single edition of the tournament's history. This record will easily be broken, with 7 more games still to play.

Ibrahim Zadran's Important Partnerships
Ibrahim Zadran opened the innings for Afghanistan, and saw the batters at the other end walking away to the dressing room in short span of time within the first powerplay as Jofra Archer dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah.
From there Zadran first stiched an important partnership with captain Hashmatullah Shahid as the duo put on 103 for the fourth wicket to get the Afghans back into the game. He ten went on to stitch an explosive 81-run stand for the fifth wicket with Azmatullah Omarzai, as Afghanistan look to post a total in excess of 300.
