Ibrahim Zadran etched his name in the history books during the virtual knockout clash between Afghanistan and England on Wednesday (February 26) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore with a stunning century that helped the Asian giants put up a competitive total on the board.
After Hasmatulah Shahidi won the toss and chose to bat first, Jofra Archer ran through the Afghanistan top order as Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atah, and Rahmat Shah departed for single-digit scores. However, Zadaran and Shahidi rebuilt the innings for the Afghans with a 103-run partnership.
The Afghanistan skipper departed after making 40 runs in 67 balls but Zadran ensured Afghanistan continued to accelerate. The 23-year-old made a century in just 106 balls

With his century against England, Zadran created history and became the youngest player in the world to score a century in both the Champions Trophy and the World Cup. He is also the first player in the world to achieve the feat before his 25th birthday. Zadran broke a record set by Rachin Ravindra, only two days ago against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. Before the New Zealand batter, Sachin Tendulkar's world record stood for 17 years.

Zadaran is the sixth youngest centurion in the history of the Champions Trophy after Shahirar Nafeez (2006), Upul Tharanga (2006, 2006), Mohammad Kaif (2002), Jacques Kallis (1998), and Dwayne Bravo (2006). He also holds the record for being the fourth youngest player to score a century in the ODI World Cup. Zadran (21 years, 330 days) scored a century against Australia in the 2023 World Cup at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
Zadran is the third youngest player to score multiple centuries in ICC ODI events after Upul Tharanga and Sachin Tendulkar. Zadran is the first Afghanistan player to score a century in the history of the Champions Trophy. The 2025 edition is the first time the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-finalists are participating in the tournament. Zadran was also the first Afghanistan player to score a century in the ODI World Cup.
Zadran became only the second player after Ben Duckett in Champions Trophy history to score a 150+ knock. Duckett made a knock of 165 in Englan's defeat against Australia on Saturday (February 22). Zadran is the youngest player to cross the 150 mark in the competition's history. His knock of 177 in 146 balls is also the highest individual score ever made in the Champions Trophy.
Afghanistan posted a huge total of 325 on the board. Zadran also broke his own record of scoring the highest individual score for his country in the ODI format. The 23-year-old made a knock of 161 against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in 2022.
