Rohit Sharma-led India qualified for the semi-final of the 2025 Champions Trophy on Monday (February 24). The Men in Blue kicked off their campaign with back-to-back wins over Bangladesh and Pakistan, respectively. New Zealand won their first game against Pakistan and they defeated Bangladesh in their second game. Both India and NZ are in the second round and they will lock horns in a dead rubber on Sunday (March 2).
Rohit created history and became the first Indian captain to achieve a huge milestone the moment India made it to the semi-final. He became the first Indian captain to lead the Men in Blue to the semi-final of his first ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy.
Under Rohit, India made it to the second round of the 2022 T20 World Cup. They lost to England in the semi-final. A year later, India made it to the final of the ODI World Cup. The hosts lost to Australia in the final. India will play their CT semi-final on March 4.
MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are 2 other Indian captains who have led the country in all 3 white-ball ICC events but they couldn't achieve what Rohit has done. Dhoni captained India to title wins in his maiden T20 and ODI World Cup. But the Men in Blue crashed out of the league stage of the 2009 Champions Trophy.
Virat-led India made it to the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy and 2019 ODI World Cup. But they had a forgettable run at the 2021 T20 World Cup. It was Virat's last event as the T20I captain.
Rohit will aim to become the third Indian captain to win the CT trophy. Sourav Ganguly-led India shared the 2002 CT trophy with Sri Lanka after both finals were washed out. Dhoni-led India defeated England in the 2013 CT final.
