Mark Scheifele made history in dramatic fashion, scoring in overtime to secure a 2-1 win over the San Jose Sharks on Monday. His 329th career goal broke Ilya Kovalchuk’s franchise record and extended Winnipeg’s winning streak to 10 games.
“Yeah, that was fun. That building was rocking,” Scheifele said. “Their goalie stood on his head all night and made us go 59 minutes and 30 seconds to get past him. But obviously, that was a big win.”

Vitek Vanecek stopped 33 shots for the struggling Sharks (15-36-8), but he couldn’t hold off a late Winnipeg surge. With 26 seconds left in regulation, Josh Morrissey’s shot forced overtime after Connor Hellebuyck was pulled for an extra attacker.
William Eklund scored for San Jose, which managed just 18 shots—its lowest total this season. Hellebuyck made 17 saves for the Jets in front of 13,801 fans at Canada Life Centre.

Scheifele, playing his 855th game—all with Winnipeg—now has 782 career points. The Kitchener, Ontario native was the Jets’ first draft pick in 2011 (seventh overall) after the Thrashers’ relocation.
“A kid from Kitchener, playing with the Kitchener Dutchman way back when I was 16, I never would have believed you,” he said. “I’m grateful to my family and the Jets organisation. They trusted in me, and I just want to keep playing well for them.”

Morrissey, who set up the OT opportunity, was thrilled for his teammate.
“The first pick, the things he’s done in this community, for the fan base. I mean, you saw the fans embrace him,” Morrissey said. “He works so hard. That’s a lot of goals, so it’s pretty impressive.”
Head coach Scott Arniel also commended Scheifele, who has 65 points this season.
“That's a great accomplishment. Just shows the longevity, how he's played through his career, and he should be real proud,” Arniel said. “He's got lots more to go, but to do it on a game-winner in overtime, he'll remember that one.”
The win moves Winnipeg into first place in the NHL, one point ahead of Washington. It also marks the second straight game the Jets won late, following Saturday’s comeback against St. Louis.
With Scheifele’s milestone and the team’s momentum, Winnipeg continues its push towards the postseason.
