Rachin Ravindra slammed his fourth century in a white-ball ICC event as New Zealand chased down the target of 237 against Bangladesh to qualify for the semi-final of the 2025 Champions Trophy. NZ's win also saw India qualify for the second round. Pakistan and Bangladesh are two teams from Group A which have been knocked out.
Rachin has been one of the best NZ batsmen since his debut. He is of Indian origin and his popularity in India skyrocketed after his success in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
As Rachin was making a name for himself in the cricketing world, a rumour of him being named after Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar went viral on social media. But that's not the truth.
His father confirmed that they only realised about it few years after his birth. "When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it. The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it. It was only some years later that we realised the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort," Ravi Krishnamurthy, Rachin's father, told ThePrint during the 2023 World Cup.
Dravid and Sachin are Indian legends and ICC Hall of Famers. They are the only two Indian batsmen to score more than 10000 runs in Test and ODI cricket. Dravid finished his career with 13288 Test and 10889 ODI runs. He also played one T20I. He retired from international cricket early in 2012.
Sachin piled up 15921 Test and 18426 ODI runs. He also played one T20I. The Master Blaster is the only batsman in world cricket to hit 100 international centuries. Sachin retired from international cricket in 2013.
Talking of Rachin, he made his first tour to India as an NZ player in 2021. He has played 15 Tests, 29 ODIs and 26 T20Is. He holds the record for scoring most centuries for NZ in ICC ODI events.
