The Indian cricket team will play in the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final after New Zealand's victory over Bangladesh confirmed that the Men in Blue and Black Caps will play in the knockout stages as both sealed their place in the last four before their match against each other on Sunday (March 2).
This means that hosts Pakistan have been knocked out of the competition. This is the first ICC tournament that the country is hosting after 29 years but the Mohammad Rizwan-led team's campaign has ended just five days after the tournament started following defeats to New Zealand and India. The defending champions' second game of the tournament at home against Bangladesh on Thursday (February 27) in Rawalpindi will be a dead rubber.
India will play the first semi-final of the competition on March 4 (Tuesday) at the Dubai International Stadium. New Zealand will play their match a day later at Lahore's Gadaffi Stadium on March 5 (Wednesday).
Both teams will only know their opponent after their match ends. The winner of the India-New Zealand clash will face the runners up of Group B while the loser will face the winner of the group, which has South Africa, Australia, Afghanistan, and England.
As things stand, South Africa is the table topper while Australia are second. However, all four teams have played just one match each and all have two games left. The last game in Group B is on Saturday (March 1) between South Africa and England.
The two qualified teams will not just have to wait till the end of the India-New Zealand march to know their opponent but also will only find out whether they have to travel to Dubai to play the Men in Blue in a match scheduled less than 48 hours later.
The final is scheduled for March 9 and if India wins their semi-final, it will be played in Dubai. If the Men in Blue lose the match, the summit clash take place in Lahore.
