Rohit Sharma will make his much-awaited return to the T20 format in IPL 2025, where he will continue to play for Mumbai Indians (MI). MI retained their core before the IPL 2025 mega-auction and Rohit was among the players they didn't release. Rohit retired from T20I cricket after the 2024 T20 World Cup and hasn't played a T20 since June 2024.
Rohit will continue to play under Hardik Pandya at MI. The five-time IPL Champions confirmed that there was no change in captaincy and Pandya, who returned to MI before IPL 2024, will continue as their captain.

Rohit-led MI ended their trophy drought and won the IPL 2013 title. They emulated their heroics in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Rohit-led MI struggled to make it to the final of the next 3 seasons, following which the management made a big change.
MI brought back Pandya from Gujarat Titans via trade and appointed him the new captain before IPL 2024. Hardik-led MI finished at the last spot in the points table for the first time in IPL's history. The five-time IPL Champions will have their task cut out in the new season.
