Virat was 4 runs away from the three-figure mark when India needed 2 runs to win. The former India captain stepped out and hit a boundary to slam the 51st century of his ODI career.

Virat went past Sachin Tendulkar and became the first batsman to score 50 ODI centuries during the 2023 World Cup. He is now on the cusp of overtaking Sachin in another list.

Virat is just one century away from becoming the first batsman in the world to hit 52 centuries in a format. Presently, the record for most centuries in a format jointly belongs to Virat and Sachin.
