The Indian cricket team extended their massive world record and put one foot in the semi-finals of the 2025 Champions Trophy with an emphatic six-wicket victory over Pakistan on Sunday (February 23) at the Dubai International Stadium. The Men in Blue have started the tournament with two wins in a row, and if New Zealand beats Bangladesh on Monday (February 24) in Rawalpindi, they will be assured of a place in the knockout stages.
The Rohit Sharma-led team won the match with 45 balls to spare as Virat Kohli scored the 82nd international ton of his career. He found able support from Shreyas Iyer (55) and Shubman Gill (46). Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets while Hardik Pandya took two vital wickets.
India Create History
India's victory over Pakistan in Dubai makes them the first team in the history of the 2025 Champions Trophy to win 20 matches. No other team has won more than 14 games, with England and Sri Lanka second on the list. Pakistan has won just 11 games in the tournament's history despite lifting the trophy in 2017.

India is the joint most successful side in the competition's history having won the title in 2013 after beating England in the final in Birmingham. They also shared the trophy in 2002 after the final against Sri Lanka in Colombo was washed out due to rain despite a reserve day being in place.
India has reached the final four times having lost the summit clash to New Zealand at Nairobi in 2000, when it was called the ICC Knockout Trophy. The Men in Blue were beaten by Pakistan in the final of the 2017 edition at the Oval, London.
Australia are the only team to win the tournament twice outright after lifting the trophy in 2006 and 2009.
South Africa won the inaugural edition in 1998 before New Zealand lifted the trophy in 2000. West Indies were crowned champions in 2004.
