India are facing Pakistan in their second match of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The fixture is taking place at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Jasprit Bumrah was spotted at the venue before the start of the game. But he isn't there with Team India.
Bumrah is in Dubai to enjoy the live action and collect his ICC awards. He received his ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year medal, ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year Medal and two caps for being named in the ICC Men's Test team and T20I Team of the Year.
Why Jasprit Bumrah is not playing Champions Trophy?
Jasprit Bumrah is not playing the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a back issue which he suffered in Australia. The senior pacer suffered a back problem during the fifth Test match Down Under. It prevented him from bowling in Australia's second innings.
Bumrah was named in the provisional Champions Trophy team but was recently ruled out. He was replaced by Harshit Rana, who is playing his second game in the tournament. India made another change in the squad and brought in Varun Chakaravarthy in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
While there is no official update, Bumrah could make his on-field return for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025. MI retained Bumrah for Rs 18 crore.
Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma in Dubai
Abhishek Varma and Tilak Varma were also spotted enjoying the live action in Dubai. Tilak has played 4 ODIs but he isn't part of the 50-over team now. He is a regular in T20Is. Abhishek has only played T20I cricket for the Men in Blue.
Both players will make their on-field returns in IPL 2025. MI retained Tilak while Sunrisers Hyderabad retained Abhishek before the mega-auction. India will make their return to T20I format in August.
