Rohit Sharma (L) Creates History, Breaks Sachin Tendulkar's (R) Record; Becomes Quickest to 9000 ODI runs as an opener.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma shattered a colossal world record during the ICC Champions Trophy match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium, leapfrogging Sachin Tendulkar in the elite list. Rohit Sharma is regarded as one of the greatest ODI openers in world cricket. During the early phase of his career, Rohit batted in the middle order and despite showing potential, his career couldn't get off the blocks. It was after MS Dhoni promoted him as an opener Rohit showed his true potential. He shattered several records and established his authority as one of the greatest ODI batsmen. He scored three ODI double-hundreds as an opener, including a best score of a massive 264.
Meanwhile, as soon as Rohit Sharma scored one run against Pakistan, he became the quickest player to score 9000 runs as an opener in ODIs. Rohit achieved the feat in his 181st ODI innings as an opener. The record was previously held by Sachin Tendulkar who reached the figure in 197 innings. Rohit is the first player to achieve the feat in less than 190 innings.
Meanwhile, Rohit also became the sixth player to score 9000 + runs as an opener in ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar tops the charts of most runs in ODis as an opener.

Most ODI Runs as an Opener

Sachin Tendulkar 15310
Sanath Jayasuriya 12740

Rohit Sharma will go down as an ODI great. In the previous game against Bangladesh, he became the second fastest after Virat Kohli to score 11000 runs in ODIs. Rohit is approaching another massive record which he could break in the next few innings. Rohit, who is already the highest six-hitter in international cricket, needs another 14 sixes to leapfrog Shahid Afridi and become the leading six-hitter in ODI cricket. Rohit currently has 338 sixes to his name, 13 behind Shahid Afrdi's 351.
Meanwhile, Pakistan set a target of 242 for India to win the blockbuster clash. Saud Shakeel played a decent hand over 62 but got no support from the other end as Pakistan were bowled out for a low score. For India, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya took three and two wickets respectively.
