Australia began their campaign in the Champions Trophy with a historic win against England in an encounter for the ages at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 22 (Saturday). The Aussies were not given any chance before coming into the tournament after a number of their key players were injured or unavailable for the mega tournament. They also came into the tournament on the back of a 0-2 ODI series loss against Sri Lanka. However, they proved their dominance in ICC tournaments in their opening game when they became the first team in history to achieve a massive feat.
England batted first and scored a massive 351/7 at the end of their 50 overs, courtesy Ben Duckett, who slammed the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history (165). Australia pulled off a miraculous chase thanks to Josh Inglis, who slammed 120 from 86 balls. The Aussies now become the first team in history to complete a successful run chase of more than 350 runs in any ICC tournament.
The previous highest successful run chase in ICC tournament history was held by Pakistan when they scored 345 against Sri Lanka in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Sri Lanka on the other hand, held the record for the highest successful run chase in Champions Trophy history, when they chased down 322 vs India in 2017.

Australia, England Break Same World Record
England's 351/7 in rhe first innings of the Champions Trophy 2025 encounter against Australia broke the world record for the highest team total in the history of the competition. They surpassed New Zealand, who had score 347/4 against USA in the 2004 edition of the tournament.
In the second innings, Australia broke this world record as they slammed 356/5.
